ACME NEWS
Announcing Fund IV

ir@acme.vc

We are pleased to announce the close of our latest funds, which will continue to fuel our model of closely partnering with extraordinary Founders early in their journeys, supporting their pursuit of game-changing ideas shaping society, business, and our environment.

The next wave of technology innovation will have a transformative impact on our lives and our environment. Novel technologies, clever applications of the blockchain, and innovative business models are all examples of how we can scale positive change to our world. Pursuing such massive opportunities is difficult, requiring teamwork and collaboration with our Founders, working side-by-side with our sleeves rolled up, turning dreams into reality.

We are fortunate to be able to work with an incredibly talented team who share a true passion for both technology and serving our portfolio companies. We are continually inspired by the ambition and talent of our startup Founders and grateful to our Limited Partners that entrust us with their capital and partner with us on our mission.

The name ACME succinctly captures our ethos of unassuming excellence. It's defined as “the point at which someone or something is best or most successful.” This is an accurate representation of the Founders we partner with, the ideas we support, and the inspiration that drives our team. We are proud of our shared progress to date and are eager to discover what our Founders will Dare to Imagine next.

What makes ACME so special that isn't necessarily obvious from an outsider looking in?
We have a culture of true intellectual honesty within the investment decision making process. One layer of a good critical debate within a group is having opinions (we have lots of them!). A deeper, far more valuable layer that differentiates ACME from almost every other investment team I know of is our team members' self awareness of the biases that we each bring to the table - which can be 'good' biases, honed over time through many experiences (e.g. Hany and gaming) - and our ability to call out and discuss those biases in the specific contexts of decision making.

What is a new innovation that you think will be the most transformative in the near-to-medium term, but isn't yet being over-hyped and over-exposed in the media?
6G... or whatever it is that we decide to call the thing that comes after 5G. Within the next decade, we will have almost instantaneous connectivity. Samsung tested 6G tech at 50x faster than 5G. Imagine a world with near zero latency. The barrier of physical and virtual will become more and more permeable. AR/VR virtual realities, smart cities, factories, farms become even more possible.

What science fiction idea do you plausibly want to see become reality in your lifetime?
Human life extension. The last decade has seen a massive increase in our understanding of cells and our ability to "read" and "write" into biological matter as if they're lines of code. It's likely that within our lifetime we will see preventative and proactive solutions that elongate the average human lifespan using these new technologies.
Alex Fayette
Alex has been with the firm since 2016 and focuses on frontier technology.

What makes ACME so special that isn't necessarily obvious from an outsider looking in?
We disagree so productively! If someone sat in our investment committee meetings, I think they’d be surprised to see how empowered everyone on the team is, even down to the most junior member, to say “I think you’re wrong, and here’s why”. We have built a tremendous trust and respect of each other that lets us vigorously debate just about anything, and we always end in an even better place than we started. I’ve never been on a team that embodies that so wholesomely, and it leads us to truly push each others thinking so well. This is a competitive advantage of ours.

What is a new innovation that you think will be the most transformative in the near-to-medium term, but isn't yet being over-hyped and over-exposed in the media?
Technology to efficiently convert CO2 into other useful materials. While much of the world is focused on carbon-capture policies and technologies right now, there is already tremendous progress being made on the next step, taking CO2 and converting it, typically with the help of some novel material science and clever chemistry, into all sorts of useful things like fuels and plastics. This new circular-carbon-economy will be here soon.

What science fiction idea do you plausibly want to see become reality in your lifetime?
Brain-machine interfaces. When we talk about "platform-shifts", the human brain becoming a platform would be the most transformative shift since the internet, maybe even more so. Unfortunately we're still in the very early days of progress, and we probably need to understand the brain a little better first!
